Affordable Warmth means new funding for Insulation Grants!
The Affordable Warmth scheme provides insulation grants for cavity wall and loft insulation. For anyone that qualifies these measures are 100% free. Inefficient boiler replacement is also covered under the scheme. Click here to apply
Insulation is important and saves on your energy bill as well!
If you have poor insulation in your home your walls and loft act like a sieve with up to one third of your heat disappearing through your walls and a further 25% through your loft. If you qualify for the Insulation grants you will not pay anything towards the upgrades and your boiler will also be free if it is not working effectively. Millions of UK homes have inadequate insulation and for many of these homes up to a third of their energy bill is escaping through the walls and loft with no benefit to the families living in them. Who pays for my insulation and boiler, will it cost me anything?
No, Affordable Warmth is a Government scheme which places an obligation on the ‘big six’ energy companies to help those most in need. These funds are used to replace inefficient boilers and upgrade insulation in your home. It is like the previous Government insulation grants except the Energy Companies are now managing the funding process and are penalised if they don’t spend all of the funds available to them! Insulation Grants: Like A Woolly Jumper For Your Home
It’s another cold, miserable winter day, with the rain pouring down in bucketloads outside and it’s nearly as wet inside your home thanks to the weeping, crying windows. You’ve got that prickle at the back of your nose and throat that tells you another cold is on its way – and it’s only a week or so since the last cold you had.
Cold, damp houses do make you sicker over winter. And while flus, colds and coughs are viruses that spread through contact, what your granny used to say is partly right. You are more vulnerable to these diseases if you’re cold and your body is putting its energy into keeping warm rather than fighting illness. What’s more, the dampness inside cold houses makes a perfect living environment for these little blighters that make winter a misery.
So what’s the answer? Should you crank up the heat (or buy a new electric heater) and grit your teeth in anticipation of the higher power bill? Should you smother yourself in woolly jumpers, hats, scarves and gloves and go around looking like the Michelin Man until springtime comes? Or should you think about wrapping your house up instead?
Insulation is one of the easiest things you can do to improve the ambient temperature in your home. Cavity insulation works like a woolly jumper for your walls – it traps the heat in at the sides. Loft insulation works like the hood of your jacket or like a woollen hat. Heat rises, so without proper insulation, 25% of the heat in your home can escape through the roof. That’s quarter of your energy bill totally wasted.
But if you’ve been struggling with high power bills for years, you might not think that you can afford proper cavity or loft insulation for your home. The good news is that with the Affordable Warmth scheme, you may qualify for getting this insulation put in completely free of charge. This is part of the government’s Energy Companies Obligation, which sees the “Big Six” energy providers helping to pay the cost of better insulation and more energy efficient boilers in homes throughout the UK.
If you are on any of the qualifying benefits (income-based job seeker’s allowance, state pension credit, income-related employment and support allowance, income support and working tax credit, child tax credit), you can get loft and cavity insulation in your home absolutely free.
